Can’t afford luxury transportation? The new 9th generation Nissan Sentra offers the luxury of transportation, starting at $23,845 (yup, including destination). That’s something of a unicorn in today’s new-car market. And while Tom Voelk checks out a fully loaded SR at just under $32K, know that all Sentras come with the same engine, transmission and suspension, so the experience is similar top to bottom. For buyers that need the peace of mind a new car with a warranty brings, Sentra might be the answer. Of course, there are others to cross shop- Honda Civic, Hyundai Elantra, Kia K4, Mazda3, Toyota Corolla and Volkswagen Jetta. Or a pre-owned car if you're comfortable finding on that's in good shape...

- Since Nissan has faced multiple class-action lawsuits over defective Continuously Variable Transmissions (CVTs) I’d stay away from this car like the plague. I have a 2019 Sentra and the transmission is trash and they deny anything is wrong with it. It also has been killing brand new batteries when not driven a couple of days. The electrical system is obviously defective and they won’t fix that either. So it’s an extreme hard pass for me.

- The Elantra is not built same. It has a VERY cheap quality interior! The suspension is comfortable and the power is sufficient. The Corolla has also cheap interior but still better than the Elantra. It has very uncomfortable seats and too low and underpowered. I still have yet to try the Sentra but I remember the last generation had a nice interior and very comfortable seats and I was in the rear seat when I rode in one. Very impressed! But I have to test drive one to see if the power is sufficient in comparison to the Elantra. Honda Civic and Mazda 3 both I feel you cannot go wrong for driving experience. They are a lot of fun and both have similar interiors. I would like to see a hybrid Sentra to add that extra zip without killing the fuel economy.

- I've been reading, and then watching car reviews, since I've been a teen. I'm now in my seventies. Every new car reviewer touts how the manufacturer improved rigidity -- usually, with a percentage, like the 6% you quoted here. Honestly, the amount of times I have heard that should make all cars rigid as rocks with zero flex. I'm not trying to be cynical here. You are my favorite reviewer, and I am a permanent auto nerd, so I'm just pointing out that as a journalist, you might want to look closer at the claim. Exactly, what was made more rigid and what are the implications to the ride and handling? Was it a technology improvement, a manufacturing improvement or a materials improvement? Anyway, as always, enjoyed the review.
