How do you use the available kick-motion sensor to open the power rear liftgate in the 2026 Mitsubishi Outlander?
The kick-motion sensor is located below the rear bumper and allows you to open the Remote Power Liftgate hands-free . If your vehicle is equipped with this available feature, follow the steps below ensure you can open the liftgate, even when your hands are full:
Have your Outlander’s key fob with you (the small, electronic device that allows you to remotely access your vehicle without using a physical key).
Next, move your foot so it’s under the rear bumper, then withdraw (similar to a gentle kicking motion). The vehicle will chime and the liftgate will automatically open.
Use the same motion with your foot to automatically close the liftgate.
Please note that this hands-free feature will open the liftgate whether the vehicle is locked or unlocked. Additionally, this feature may not work if you are wearing certain kinds of rubber boots or if your foot remains under the rear bumper.
