New Alfa Romeo Tonale 2026 | ShortsCars

The new Alfa Romeo Tonale integrates "Human Intelligence" by blending classic Italian emotion and design with advanced technology, featuring Level 2 autonomous driving, smart connectivity (Alexa, smartphone integration, NFT digital certificate), and performance tech like adaptive suspensions and direct steering, creating an intuitive connection between driver and machine that enhances passion and driving pleasure, not replaces it. It uses AI and smart systems to assist with safety (collision avoidance, driver drowsiness) and convenience, while retaining core Alfa Romeo driving dynamics, offering a unique, emotional driving experience.

Key Aspects of "Human Intelligence" in the Tonale:

Emotional Connection:
The concept emphasizes transferring authentic emotions, blending passion with technology for a more engaging drive, unlike purely autonomous vehicles.
Advanced Driver-Assistance Systems (ADAS):
Level 2 autonomy combines Intelligent Adaptive Cruise Control, Lane Centering, and Traffic Jam Assist for stress reduction in traffic, while systems like Traffic Sign Recognition and Forward Collision Warning enhance safety.

Smart Connectivity: Features Amazon Alexa integration, smartphone/smartwatch control, remote operations, and a personalized infotainment system with Apple CarPlay/Android Auto.

Unique Technology: Includes an NFT digital certificate for authenticity and exclusive Amazon services, plus performance tech like column-mounted aluminum paddle shifters, adaptive suspensions, and excellent weight distribution.
Intuitive Interaction: Systems like Driver Drowsiness Detection and Rear Seat Reminder add intelligent assistance, while the overall design focuses on placing the driver at the center.

The 2026 Alfa Romeo Tonale Intensa PHEV promises a lot: Italian flair, a premium badge, plug-in hybrid tech and a price tag that suggests it’s playing with the big boys. On paper, it should be a stylish, sporty alternative to the usual compact premium SUVs. In reality… it’s a bit more complicated than that.

In this review, we take the Tonale Intensa Plug-in Hybrid out into the real world to see how it stacks up where it matters: driving feel, ride quality, hybrid performance, electric range, interior quality and everyday usability. We also spend some time talking about the design, because while Alfa usually nails this stuff, the Tonale’s proportions, small wheels and slightly droopy stance don’t quite scream “sporty Italian icon”.

We dig into how the PHEV system works day to day, whether it actually feels like an Alfa Romeo to drive, and how well it justifies its premium positioning. Because when you’re asking this much money, charm alone isn’t enough, and the Tonale occasionally feels like it’s trying a bit too hard to convince you.

There’s definitely appeal here: flashes of Alfa character, a nice cabin in places, and a badge that still carries emotional weight. But there are also moments that make you stop, squint, and wonder whether this is really the best way to spend your money.

The issue of money is very important, especially when it’s up against rivals like the BMW X1 PHEV, Audi Q3 TFSIe, Volvo XC40 Recharge PHEV, Cupra Formentor PHEV, Mercedes-Benz GLA PHEV and Lexus NX PHEV. All its rivals offer strong alternatives and have their own strengths.

- It's beautiful from behind, it's beautiful from the side, but when I look at it from the front, I feel disgusted, it's not an Alfa with a license plate in the middle.
With a license plate in the middle, it's just a car, and so are all the others.
Give us back Alfa because an Alfa is not a car, an Alfa is much more

- Lovely car! With soul and this sexy vibe hard to describe. Technically marks all the check boxes with dramatic funny dynamic mode, comfy neutral mode, claver suspension and direct steering wheel. Also it's very practical as a EV on daily market and school runs. Definitely fun to drive, enjoyable to look at and loveable... ❤❤❤ But 50k...

- I think Alfa have done a great job in designing the exterior of this SUV and I like the colour too. Pity about the PHEV execution though. This would have been a much better car if it had been fully electric with a decent range.
