INFO
The future of European automotive manufacturing has arrived at BMW Group Plant Leipzig
In a historic first for Europe, the BMW Group is launching a pilot project featuring Physical AI—the seamless integration of digital artificial intelligence with humanoid robotics. Watch as we step inside the Leipzig plant to see the AEON humanoid robot in action, a project developed in collaboration with Hexagon Robotics.

Why Leipzig?
Leipzig is the hub for BMW’s next-generation production. By leveraging a unified IT and data model, BMW has turned the factory into a living laboratory for Physical AI. This project isn’t just about automation; it’s about creating a "Physical AI" agent that can learn, adapt, and perform complex tasks in real-world industrial environments.

Meet AEON:
The Robot Re-shaping Production
Developed by Hexagon, the AEON robot features a unique human-like design optimized for the factory floor:
Multifunctional Use: Equipped with flexible hand, gripper, and scanning tools.
Dynamic Locomotion: Moves efficiently on wheels for rapid deployment across the plant.
Specific Tasks: Currently being tested in high-voltage battery assembly and component manufacturing.
The Pilot Timeline:
December 2025: Initial test deployment at Plant Leipzig completed.
April 2026: Integration testing to ensure smooth communication with the BMW IT ecosystem.
Summer 2026: Official start of the full pilot phase in series production.
