INFO The Journey Through Waters, Over Steep Climbs and Along Narrow Trails of Iceland.
With travel photographer Frauke Hameister and content creator Laurens Saggau we set out to uncover Icelands most remote and breathtaking corners. Guided by curiosity and a spirit of discovery, we ventured far beyond the familiar, tracing volcanic crater lakes such as Hnausapollur and navigating the rugged tracks that wind towards Bláfjallafoss.
For the G-Class, these wild landscapes are more than a challenge – they are an open invitation. Where maps become blank and tracks turn to memory, the G-Class shows its true character: embracing the unknown, turning obstacles into stories, and proving that real adventure always begins where the road fades away.
Crossing Rivers.
On Icelands legendary F-Routes, the road sometimes leads straight through small rivers. For Frauke and Laurens, these sudden water crossings became as much a part of the journey as passing endless lava fields and driving up steep mountain slopes. With the wind sweeping across the highlands and icy water sparkling in the sun, neither hesitated as the G-Class is built for moments like these.
With a confident push, the electric G-Class plunged into the glacial stream ahead. Time and again, it forded the water with ease. It can handle water crossings up to 850 millimetres deep before critical components, such as air intakes and ventilation systems, become affected. The G 450 d follows with a maximum fording depth of 700 millimetres, its engine protected by clever design and double-sealed doors. It was in these moments that the G-Class proved its strength – for combustion models through robust build, permanent all-wheel drive, and three mechanical differential locks, and for the all-electric G-Class with four individually controlled motors ensuring optimal power distribution offering Laurens and Frauke the unwavering confidence to take on whatever the route throws at them.
Steep Hills.
Somewhere deep in Iceland’s highlands, the gravel track suddenly tips skyward, vanishing over the crest of a hill. For Frauke and Laurens, these blind climbs were both a thrill and a challenge, never quite knowing what lies on the other side. But behind the wheel of the G-Class, they’re never left guessing for long.
With the innovative transparent bonnet function, the electric G-Class and the G 450 d offer a form of digital co-pilot for the toughest moments. Merging images from the cameras at the front and on the door mirrors, the system creates a virtual view of the ground directly ahead, projected onto the media display as if the bonnet itself were see-through. When the path was hidden by the slope or scattered with volcanic rocks, a guiding lane calculated by the steering angle helped Frauke and Laurens pick the perfect line.
On these steep Icelandic hills, where the horizon disappears and the ground drops away, the G-Class gave them the confidence to keep climbing – turning the unknown into just another part of the adventure.

- Mercedes proves once again that nature is the true playground for the G-Wagon. Timeless prestige.😎😉❤- As long as you at least take it into the nature... please do if, or when you have one. That's it's purpose
- The immense collaboration between G-wagon and True Nature just goes hand in hand. G-wagon is the emotion. Hopefully one day Mercedes-Benz! Love ❤
- Unfortunately, for us in the States, the G-Class has become an over-priced douche-mobile. Please make it less luxurious, smaller wheels/larger sidewalls so we can use a G like I use my 392 Rubicon Wrangler. My GLE 53 came with offroad mode and 22" wheels. It will not go offroad. Give us more backseat room and get me out of my Jeep.
