FAQ on the Main Inspection Service and inspection
It’s the mandatory check to determine whether a vehicle complies with legal regulations. The main inspection is carried out by state-certified inspection organisations.

During the main inspection, the vehicle’s road safety is checked in accordance with the German Road Traffic Licensing Act (StVZO). Operational safety, however, is not included in the inspection. There are other inspections and potential follow-up maintenance works to deal with the latter. The main inspection constitutes a purely visual and functional check as well as a check of effectiveness.

The test costs €55 and takes between 40 minutes – 1 hour to conduct. It involves approximately 60 different checks which will be carried out both by computer and manually. If your car fails the test, you must book a re-test within 21 days and the re-test must be completed within 30 days of the original test. A re-test costs €28.

Book a service
If your car is four years or older, it must take a test. How regularly you repeat the test depends on the age of your car. You must repeat the test:

Every two years, if your car is over four years old and less than ten years old
Every year, if your car is over ten years but less than 30 years old

- Impossible to schedule a charge on a home charger via the infotainment system on the new model (same as my Mk8.5 golf GTE), which means, if you plug up at 7pm for example, and hope to charge off peak from 0030 (octopus go), the car says 'no', as it wants to charge immediately, resulting in a discharged 12v battery. So, the only option is to wake up at 0030, plug up your car then commence an immediate charge. 3 pin is an option with a suitable timer, but clearly , a much slower option at 2.4kw speed. I wouldn't have bought the car if I knew the functionality had been taken away from the mk8. Come on VW, sort out a software update so we can benefit from off peak charging rates without the current hassles.
