INFO
Positioned between smaller and larger electric vans in the Transit family, the new model targets companies operating in dense city environments where daily driving distances are relatively short and efficiency is critical.
Developed in collaboration with Ford’s long-time Chinese partner Jiangling Motors, the Transit City will be produced in China and is expected to enter the market in 2026. The van is powered by an electric motor producing around 150 horsepower and uses a 56 kWh battery, delivering a range of roughly 250 km (about 155–160 miles). Fast-charging capability allows the battery to reach 80 percent in just over half an hour, reinforcing its role as a practical tool for frequent stop-and-go urban operations.
In terms of practicality, the Transit City is offered in multiple configurations, including two cargo van sizes and a chassis cab variant for specialized conversions. Payload capacity can exceed one ton, while cargo space is designed to accommodate common commercial needs such as pallets and construction materials. Ford has simplified the lineup by offering a single well-equipped trim level, aiming to reduce costs and complexity for fleet buyers.
The model reflects Ford’s broader strategy of focusing on affordable, purpose-built electric vehicles rather than large, high-cost EVs. By tailoring the Transit City to predictable urban usage patterns—where many businesses travel less than 100 km per day—Ford is prioritizing efficiency, durability, and low operating costs over long-range capability.
Overall, the Transit City represents a pragmatic addition to Ford’s electric van portfolio, emphasizing simplicity, affordability, and real-world usability for last-mile delivery and city-based commercial fleets.

- I think a group of very high paid guys in Ford got together a few years ago and said…How can we completely destroy our customer base in Europe?
The other guy replies… I know let’s stop making the fiesta when it’s the best selling car Europe even though our competitor the Vauxhall corsa has already been making an Ev version for a few years now we will cancel our ‘A’ segment car completely. Let’s then arrive years late to the EV party with the Puma E by which time those customers will have already jumped ship to numerous other manufacturers who have already made an Ev in this range. Then let’s look at what Renault are doing by making cool Ev’s that will attract dubious of Ev cars by making the 5 and 4 that remind them of their youth to draw them over. We can remake the Capri but instead of making a cool coupe we will make another hideous oversized suv and just stick the capri badge on it. That will fool them!
Whoever has designed this new transit needs the sack. It’s absolutely disgusting to look at!
It’s a tragic shame that ford have abandoned their heritage here in the Uk. I was a Ford man through and through right from the early 60s stuff right through to the 2000s having had dozens of cortina’s, granada’s, capri’s sierra’s, fiesta’s, a zodiac mk3/4, transit’s, escorts and mondeo’s.
They make absolutely nothing now that remotely interests me.
Still got my early 80s Granada in the garage and I would rather drive that everyday more than anything they produce today.
