NEW Mazda 6e 2026 Walkaround Review

Ever wonder why some car companies seem hesitant to dive headfirst into the electric revolution? For a while, Mazda was one of those brands. They had the MX-30, but its limited range was a real setback. Now, they’ve launched the Mazda 6e in the UK, a car aiming to make a statement. But is it hitting the mark, or will the price tag be a roadblock?

The Mazda 6e is a new all‑electric mid‑size fastback sedan introduced by Mazda for 2025–2026, primarily for Europe and global markets. It revives the spirit of the discontinued Mazda 6 by replacing traditional petrol models with a fully battery‑electric vehicle (BEV).

The Mazda 6e debuted in 2025, with Europe launch in summer 2025 and continued model year into 2026.

It is the European version of the Mazda EZ‑6 originally shown in China.

Electric Powertrain and Performance

The Mazda 6e comes with two main battery and powertrains, both rear‑wheel‑drive BEVs:

Powertrain Options

Standard Battery (68.8 kWh):
Power: ~255 PS (≈258 hp)
Acceleration: ~0–100 km/h in ~7.6 s
WLTP range: ~300 miles (≈480 km)
DC fast charging: up to ~200 kW (10–80 % in ~22 min)
Long‑Range Battery (80 kWh):

Power: ~244 PS (≈245 hp)
Acceleration: ~7.8 s 0–100 km/h
WLTP range: ~345 miles (≈555 km)
DC fast charging: ~45 min (10–80 %)

Torque for both versions is around 320 Nm (236 lb‑ft) and they use a single rear motor layout — giving a sportier driving feel with rear‑wheel‑drive dynamics.

Design and Practicality
Body Style: Sleek fastback silhouette with a coupe‑like roofline and five‑door practicality.
Styling sticks to Mazda’s “Kodo: Soul of Motion” design language — modern and elegant, with frameless door glass for a premium look.
The Mazda 6e acts as a new generation electric mid‑size EV that’s a direct competitor to cars like the Tesla Model 3 and BMW i4 in Europe.

Interior and Technology

The interior blends premium materials with modern tech:
Large central touchscreen (~14.6″) for infotainment
10.2″ instrument cluster ahead of the driver
Optional augmented reality head‑up display
Apple CarPlay / Android Auto integration
Advanced driver‑assist systems and safety technology

Mazda’s focus is on driver engagement and craftsmanship (“Jinba‑Ittai” feeling), even in an EV.

Driving and Dynamics
Mazda engineers tuned the chassis and handling to deliver MX‑5‑like engagement, aiming for a balanced ride and responsive steering despite being an EV.

Rear‑wheel drive helps the Mazda 6e feel more athletic and expressive than many front‑ or all‑wheel‑drive EV sedans.

Availability and Markets
Europe: Launched in summer 2025, continuing into 2026 showrooms and deliveries.
UK: Expected availability around 2026.
Australia/New Zealand: Scheduled for mid‑2026 imports.
This positions the Mazda 6e as one of Mazda’s key global EV offerings in the next few years.

- Most affordable at $50K. What about the $30-40K ranges? And the Atto 1 under $ 30K?
- The problem that Mazda has is my options are either 'luxury sedan' or medium/large SUV - no in between - no hot hatches, not sports wagons etc. If you're someone with active hobbies you have to look elsewhere.
- Mazda doesn't know how to make EVs so they use Changan Auto to make this car for them. Why pay more for a rebadged Chinese car buy it straight from the source Chinese Deepal brand.
