At Auto China 2026, Nissan Motor Co., Ltd. unveiled two new NEV SUV concept cars, marking a significant step in its accelerated product rollout, and highlighting China’s role as one of the company’s lead markets and a global innovation and export hub supporting long term growth.
Ivan Espinosa, President and CEO, said “Under our vision, China is not only a highly competitive domestic market but also a source of innovation, enabling us to create new value and experiences for customers in China and in the global markets. Advanced technology must serve a clear purpose and be experienced directly by customers through mobility that is safer, more intuitive, and more accessible. China is central to bringing this belief to life.”
Two new SUV concepts make global debut
Nissan presented two NEV concept SUVs that demonstrates its accelerated NEV product offensive in China.
The Urban SUV PHEV Concept is designed for young Chinese customers. Its design draws from philosophies of the NX8 and Nissan’s future SUV lineup, blending advanced electrification technology with urban daily driving performance.
The Terrano PHEV Concept marks the return of an iconic nameplate. Equipped with the latest plug-in hybrid technology, the Terrano builds on Nissan's off-road heritage while addressing the dual needs of outdoor adventure and urban commuting.
Production versions of both concept cars are scheduled to be unveiled within one year. Nissan also plans to introduce three additional NEV models in China within a year, further accelerating its NEV expansion and brand transformation.
There was a time when SUVs were built with a clear purpose—simple, durable, and ready for real use.
The Nissan Xterra was one of those vehicles.
In this video, we’re not looking at an official release, but exploring a possible direction of what the Xterra could become if it returned in 2027.
From its exterior design and functional proportions to its practical interior and everyday usability, this concept focuses on something often overlooked in modern SUVs—honesty and purpose.
This is not about extreme performance or complex technology.
This is about a vehicle that simply works.
Welcome to POLOTO,
where we explore cars beyond just how they look—
but how they fit into real, everyday life.
What do you think?
Should the Nissan Xterra return in a form like this…
or should it remain part of the past?

- when your partnership with the french completely kill your brand's renown quality and reliability and you have to pull a rabbit out of a hat to save yourself from bankruptcy - the revival of a dead but legendary car - the Nissan Terrano.but that won't save Nissan, nope, this is a Terrano only by name. it probably will still have the absolute horrible french reliability that Nissan adopted when joining the Renault Alliance... unless Nissan leaves Stellantis and Joins Toyota-Mazda then i don't see themselves getting out of that french hole that's getting them closer to bankruptcy each year. Nissan and Mitsubishi used to be known for their price efficient cars and incredible reliability - now they are both known as unreliable car brands that cost more than they should, and that maintenance costs for are so much higher than their direct Japanese competitors (Honda, Toyota, Mazda, Isuzu)
- you better bet Renault and Mitsubishi will steal this chasis from Nissan and build their own version of this.
i see a revival of the Pajero out of this and maybe Renault will bring some frog car out of this.
sadly though, all of those cars will suck because Renault sucks and is the world king of unreliable trash french cars and overcomplicated car electronic technologies.
- All Nissan had to do was take the current FRONTIER and make an XTERRA out of it with V-6 and a 6-speed manual at a lower price than a 4Runner. Done.
